In today’s marine industry, operations are becoming more efficient by capitalizing on increased data transfer and communication between on-shore and vessels. Vessel captains realize the need for enhanced communications, but there are some real challenges to deal with. Electronic communication with shore is often unreliable, and some crews aren’t computer savvy, so won’t use new systems. Most importantly, their primary focus is running their vessels safely and efficiently, and a complex piece of software that’s difficult to use will only distract them and make them frustrated. If you have to use an onboard computer, you need a data management system that is simple, reliable and doesn’t get in the way of running the vessel.

It can be installed with just one click of a mouse and is so easy to use it can be operated by any crew member with virtually no training. The various Helm Onboard™ modules (Captain’s Log, Personnel, Maintenance and Purchasing) are designed to communicate with Helm’s shore-side modules. Captains and crew can easily send and receive job related information, keep detailed captain’s logs, update vessel information, order parts and supplies and capture all crew payroll details. And if there isn’t a connection available to shore, Helm Onboard’s standalone database stores all data on the vessel until a reliable, secure connection is found.
